I've got my Registration and Absentee Ballot Request—Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) form ready to mail, and if the system works the way it's supposed to, I should get a paper ballot at my London address in a month or two. Then I get to mail it back and be one of those "overseas" voters that have helped make some recent elections a little extra exciting. It's easy to set this up, just visit the Federal Voting Assistance Program website and click on the state of your primary residence for instructions and a link to the form.
We'll have a very interesting time, I think, seeing the final months of the already interminable presidential campaign from a distance. The folks in Britain, judging by the press, are very interested in the election and I expect we might get asked for our opinions (and maybe for explanations of such un-European concepts as the electoral college) pretty often.
I will try to post descriptions of any interesting (and printable) discussions I have with Londoners about our politics. And anyone anywhere can keep up with the British perspective by following these special pages on the websites of my two favorite online British papers: The Times of London (where you'll also find this entertaining blog) and The Guardian.
And for those of you for whom voting will be even easier in November, be sure to do it!
